HISTORY

Vision Robotics was formed in 1999 with the goal to develop autonomous robotic solutions that focused on vision-based mapping. With strategic partners, the team began work in earnest on consumer applications that have enabled the company to create a uniquely robust and cost effective approach to robotics.  It entered the agricultural market in 2004 with a feasibility study for harvesting oranges.  While waiting for picking hand technology to catch up with the machine vision, the initial concept transformed into a deployable crop load estimation system for tree fruit.  VRC is also in development of an intelligent autonomous grapevine pruner.

In 2011, VRC was approached by lettuce growers to develop a lettuce thinner. Using our large technology base, we developed a system in a few months.  Our thinners offer the best performance in the industry and have evolved with the needs of the operators.  The fifth generation design can operate in fields where the line spacing is less than 7.5" and uses the latest Neural Net AI that identifies the crops and weeds.  Our plant database is continuously growing and currently includes various lettuce varieties as well and several kale varieties, chard and collards.  This improved system system also detects weeds enabling excellent performance in all conditions.

In addition to the lettuce thinners, VRC has produced customized intelligent, spot-spraying weeders.  It is straightforward to adapt the same systems for new crops and configurations.  The company has also introduced its patented mechanical, inline weeder cultivator.  The electric motor design provides highly customizable contours for the best available cultivation coverage.  The company is looking for strategic partners for its precision grapevine pruner

ABOUT US

Vision Robotics and its subsidearies Vision Robotics Lettuce Production, LLC and Vision Robotics Vineyard Products, LLC develop robotics systems for a wide range of applications.  Our technology base is extensive including machine vision and precise actuator control.  Our applications range from agriculture to consumer to defense projects.  Our solutions typically employ cameras and other sensors to understand the environment and different actuators and tools to perform tasks.  Our vision algorithms are extensive and continue to increase including the use of Deep Learning.  Our robotics and agricultural knowhow provides a robust base for many applications. In short, VRC has created a uniquely robust and cost effective approach to robotics.  We believe that the cost of computer power coupled with new solid-state sensors has opened much more of the world to mechanization.

Our vision-based algorithms enable robots to autonomously create three-dimensional maps of unknown areas of interest whether this is mapping a building or modeling a grapevine. The maps and models enable robots to intelligently and accurate perform a myriad of tasks whether it is vacuuming a floor or pruning a grapevine.   Our experience and creativity make us excellent partners for companies looking for assistance in developing robots.

OUR APPROACH

Vision Robotics Corporation (VRC) has developed proprietary machine-vision technology that enables the creation of intelligent robots. The next generation robots require mobility and the ability to interact with the changing world. VRC’s software and supporting technology enable robots to explore, understand, and work autonomously and reliably in complex environments. Coupling VRC’s technology with the current generation of high-performance, low cost microprocessors, solid-state cameras and other essential components make affordable, high performance, vision-based mobile robots practical.  We are a technology enabler providing the know-how to automate a wide variety of tasks.  However, the technology alone is not sufficient to make a successful product.  Each application must be designed and built for its unique environment.

VRC is a commercial enterprise interested in deploying practical products. This begins with our robotic vision techniques to build intelligent robots, including the world's most advanced and accurate vision-based mapping, localization and navigation system. Our proprietary and patented technology has integrated well-known algorithms with the most recent developments from research laboratories around the world. Because the needs are different, the tasks and performance are application based. VRC has developed a broad base of technology applicable to a wide range of products, and has created a process that enables efficient implementation.

VRC has significant software, mechanical and system integration experience. We typically to partner with industry partners. These collaborations work well for designing products that perform quality work. VRC also partners experienced manufacturing companies help design and build sufficiently durable and rugged equipment for each application.
